About Hugh Taylor Birch

In the middle of Fort Lauderdale's hotel strip, Hugh Taylor Birch is a shady stretch of old-Florida hammock, a freshwater coastal dune lake and the Intracoastal shore. The park's entry fee covers parking, which on a busy beach weekend is worth the price on its own.

The ocean beach lies just across A1A: walk through the park's Beach Gate, where The Grove serves coffee and rents chairs and umbrellas, and use the crosswalk. Inside the park there are kayaks on the lake, a 1.9-mile park drive for bikes and skates, and Birch's 1940 home, now the Terramar Visitor Center.
