About Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea calls itself Florida's beach-diving capital, and it earns it: a living reef lies within 100 yards of the shore, so you can walk in from the sand with a mask and fins. From the Datura Avenue portal, the town's snorkel trails lead to reef ledges and the Shipwreck Snorkel Trail's anchor and cannons in about 10 feet of water.
The town itself is low-rise and walkable, with beach portals that have showers, shade and benches. Snorkel only on calm days with a dive flag, and check the surf forecast first: waves and rip currents cloud the water and make the reef dangerous.
